Fill empty calendar slots

Follow the fill empty calendar slots workflow in Slack.

Goal

Fill open calendar slots with library posts, weekly plan ideas, or manual picks so the brand queue is ready before posts go live.

When to use this

Use fill gaps when Plan shows empty slots inside your cadence windows and you want to schedule content quickly. Choose one slot at a time when you want to review each suggestion, or use batch actions when several gaps need the same treatment.

Fill gaps works well after you configure cadence and build library content. It also helps when an AI-assisted weekly plan has approved ideas you want on the calendar instead of library rotation.

Before you begin

Confirm you can open the Plan work center. Interactive planning must be enabled for your workspace (included on Free, Starter, Team, and Scale plans).

You need an active brand with saved cadence windows. Automatic library suggestions require posts in your content library. Without library content, use Manual to pick posts or Fill from Plan when you have approved plan ideas.

Multi-slot batch actions such as Schedule all are part of multi-slot planning, which is included on Starter, Team, and Scale plans but not on Free.

Steps

Find empty slots

  1. Open Slash Social App Home and switch to the Plan work center. Note open slots on the calendar for the active brand.
  2. Or type /social, search for fill gaps, and open the fill gaps flow.

Slash Social computes empty slots and library suggestions for the date range you request. Review the suggested library match shown for each open slot.

Schedule one gap

  1. Open the preview for a suggested library post.
  2. Choose Schedule to place that post in the slot.
  3. Or choose Pick different to rotate to another library candidate. Pick different avoids repeating the post you just declined.
  4. Confirm the slot updates in Plan.

Schedule many gaps

When several slots need filling at once:

  1. Choose Schedule all to fill every open slot with the current suggestion set.
  2. Or open Customize to filter suggestions by pillar, recency, or sort order, then rerun suggestions before scheduling.
  3. Or open Manual to assign specific library posts to specific slots yourself.

Schedule all runs as a batch update across all open slots in the current set.

Fill from a content pack

When you want approved ideas from the weekly plan instead of library rotation:

  1. Open Fill from Plan.
  2. Select the ideas you want on the calendar.
  3. Submit the form.

If a selected idea is missing or invalid, the modal stays open with a clear error so you can fix the selection.

Success criteria

You have finished when:

  • Formerly empty slots in Plan show scheduled or queued items for the active brand.
  • Calendar and queue views list the posts you placed, matching the slots you targeted.
  • Batch fills completed without errors across every slot in the set.

Filled items can appear as planned, scheduled, queued, or blocked when a slot cannot accept the post you chose.

Troubleshooting

No library suggestions appear

Confirm the brand has library posts and cadence windows define open slots. Add library content or widen cadence windows in Settings, then reopen fill gaps.

Schedule or Schedule all returns an error

The target slot or library post may no longer exist. Slash Social leaves the calendar unchanged and shows an error. Refresh Plan, reopen fill gaps, and try again with the updated slot list.

Pick different shows the same post again

Rotate again or open Customize to change filters. Pick different is designed to skip the candidate you just rejected.

Fill from Plan fails on submit

One or more selected ideas is missing. Read the modal error, adjust your selection, and resubmit.

Schedule all is unavailable or blocked

Multi-slot planning may not be on your plan. Free workspaces can still fill gaps one slot at a time. Upgrade to Starter or higher for batch scheduling.

Filled posts do not publish

Scheduling content is separate from publishing. See Publishing failed if queued items fail at publish time.
