Import and repurpose content

Follow the import and repurpose content workflow in Slack.

Goal

Turn a URL, pasted text, Slack thread, existing post, or external post into new draft posts or saved ideas without starting from a blank Create modal. Import and Repurpose validates the source first, then generates output you review before accepting.

When to use this

Use this workflow when you have source material outside Slash Social and want AI-assisted drafts or a saved idea derived from that source.

Good fits:

  • A blog URL or article you want to split into multiple posts.
  • A Slack thread that should become campaign copy.
  • An existing post you want to adapt for another platform.
  • Pasted notes you want structured before scheduling.

Use Capture and use ideas when you only need a short saved spark. Use Generate a single post when you are writing from scratch in the create modal.

Before you begin

Confirm you have:

  • Access to the Create work center.
  • An active brand selected in App Home.
  • At least one connected social account when you plan to create draft posts. Saving an idea can work without a publish-ready account.

Plan notes:

  • Content briefs are available on Starter plans and above, not on Free. Brief-style source handling uses that capability.
  • Canva design imports are available on Free, Starter, Team, and Scale plans when you bring approved creative into the post workflow.
  • Content Library is available on Starter plans and above when draft output uses library assets.
  • AI generation counts toward your plan limits.

Steps

Open Import and Repurpose

  1. Open App Home, go to the Create work center, and choose Import and Repurpose or Import Content.
  2. Or type /social-create, open the Create modal, and use the import action there.
  3. Or paste a link in a DM with the Slash Social bot and choose Import and Repurpose from the capture chooser.
  4. Or type /social, search for import or repurpose, and run the matching action.

Message capture may pre-fill source context from a URL, text, or thread before the import modal opens.

Configure the source

  1. Choose a Source Type: URL, pasted text, Slack thread, existing post, or external post URL.
  2. Enter the source content or pick the post.
  3. Choose Generate. Slash Social validates the source first. Fix any validation errors shown in the modal before trying again. Use Retry if validation fails after you correct the source.
  4. Choose what you want from the source: Create Draft Post or Save as Idea.
  5. When creating drafts, select Output Mode (for example format bundle, campaign plan, or multiple posts), target accounts, and other fields the modal shows after validation.

Required fields for submit include source, source reference, and output mode when creating drafts. If the modal says brand details do not match, reopen it with the correct active brand before submitting.

Generate and review

  1. Submit the modal. Slash Social starts generation and sends DM updates while work runs.
  2. When drafts are ready, open Review and Accept from the notification or Create work center.
  3. On the preview, choose Keep Drafts to keep drafts or Discard to remove them.
  4. Accepted drafts appear in Posts and Create for review and scheduling. Accepted ideas appear in Ideas.

Rejected batches are removed. Failed runs appear in Failed Jobs on the Create work center.

Success criteria

You have finished this workflow when:

  • Accepted drafts show in your draft list with copy derived from the source.
  • Accepted ideas appear in the Ideas list for the active brand.
  • Rejected or discarded batches no longer appear in review.
  • Item status reflects the next step your team expects: draft saved, pending approval, queued, or generation failed if background work did not finish.

Troubleshooting

Source validation fails

Read the field-level errors in the modal. Confirm the URL is reachable, the thread is in a workspace the app can read, or the pasted text meets minimum requirements. Change Source Type if you picked the wrong option, then validate again.

Submit blocked for missing fields

Fill source, source reference, and output mode before submit. When saving as an idea only, follow the fields shown for that branch.

No drafts after generation

Open Review and Accept from the DM or Create home. You may need to accept the batch before drafts appear in Posts.

Generation failed

Open Failed Jobs on Create home. Retry when offered. See Retry a failed generation.

Wrong brand on output

Confirm the active brand before opening Import and Repurpose. Close the modal and reopen from Create home with the correct brand selected.

Canva or brief features missing

Confirm your plan includes Canva design imports or content briefs. Upgrade from Free if brief-style import is required.
