Start a new draft

Follow the start a new draft workflow in Slack.

Goal

Open the Create compose flow with the correct brand, account defaults, and foundation fields before you add copy, media, or scheduling. This workflow sets up a new draft item without requiring you to finish the post in one sitting.

When to use this

Use this workflow when you need a fresh draft and want to confirm brand and account context first. Choose it over Import and Repurpose when you are starting from scratch rather than from a URL, thread, or existing post.

Common situations:

  • You want to set brand and format before writing a caption.
  • You need a draft shell your team can fill in later.
  • You opened Create from App Home and want the full compose modal, not a quick shortcut.

Before you begin

Confirm you have:

  • Access to the Create work center in App Home.
  • At least one active brand in the workspace.
  • The correct brand selected if you work across multiple brands.

If you plan to attach library media later, Content Library is available on Starter plans and above, not on Free.

Steps

Open the compose modal

Start from any of these entry points:

  1. Type /social-create in a Slack message.
  2. Type /social, search for the create task, and run it.
  3. Open App Home, switch to Create, and choose Compose or the primary create action on Create home.
  4. Open the Command Palette from App Home and run the create task.

The compose modal may show a brief loading state before the full form appears. Wait for the loading state to finish; App Home create actions update the modal once the form is ready.

Set foundation fields

  1. Confirm the active brand. Change it if you publish for a different brand in a multi-brand workspace.
  2. Review default account and format selections from your saved preferences.
  3. Add a working title, notes, or source context when the form exposes those fields at this stage.
  4. Continue into caption, media, and scheduling controls in the same flow, or save as a draft when only the setup fields are ready.

Choose your next action

From the compose modal you can:

  • Continue building the post in the same session (caption, media, schedule).
  • Save as a draft and return later from Drafts on Create home.
  • Switch brand or account before submitting if your team publishes to multiple profiles.

Drafts you save here can move through later states such as pending approval, queued, or generation failed if AI or rendering runs in a follow-up step.

Success criteria

You have finished this workflow when:

  • The compose modal shows the expected brand and connected accounts.
  • Foundation fields match the brand and accounts you intend to publish to.
  • Opening Drafts or returning to Create home keeps the same brand context.
  • A saved draft appears in your draft list with status draft saved or progresses to approval or queue when you submit scheduling intent.

Troubleshooting

The modal does not open

Run /social-create again from the message box. If you started from App Home, return to Create home and tap the create action once more. Open the Command Palette and retry the create task if the first attempt returned no visible result.

You see an error message with a reference ID

Copy the reference and contact support. The app sends safe feedback when compose open fails from App Home rather than failing silently.

Wrong brand or accounts appear

Change the active brand in the compose modal before saving. Confirm your App Home brand selector matches the brand you intend to publish for.

Loading state never finishes

Close the modal, confirm you have an active brand, and reopen compose from /social-create or Create home.

Draft saved but fields look incomplete

Reopen the draft from Drafts on Create home. Foundation fields you skipped earlier can be filled before you submit for approval or queue.

Keep the same active brand while you edit, otherwise account and pillar choices may not match the draft you opened.
