Capture and use ideas

Follow the capture and use ideas workflow in Slack.

Goal

Capture content sparks, browse saved ideas for your brand, and turn them into drafts when you are ready to post. Ideas stay in a dedicated list until you promote them into the Create flow.

When to use this

Use this workflow when you want to save inspiration without building a post immediately. Ideas work well for Slack messages, meeting notes, and rough concepts your team will schedule later.

Choose Import and Repurpose instead when you have a URL, thread, or external post you want to expand into multiple drafts or a structured brief.

Before you begin

Confirm you have:

  • Access to the Create work center.
  • An active brand selected in App Home. Ideas are scoped to the active brand.
  • At least one connected social account when you plan to create a draft from an idea.

Steps

Browse and save ideas

  1. Open App Home, go to Create, and choose Open Ideas on the Ideas card.
  2. Or type /social and search for Ideas.
  3. In the Ideas modal, filter and page through saved ideas for the active brand.
  4. To save a new idea from the list, choose Save Idea, enter the text, and submit. Duplicate ideas are blocked with a clear message.

The Ideas modal opens from App Home and can hand off to the create modal stack while preserving create state when you promote an idea.

Save from a Slack message

  1. Copy the Slack message link or the relevant message text.
  2. Open Slash Social with /social, /social-create, the Command Palette, or a direct message to the Slash Social app.
  3. Choose Save as Idea when prompted, then confirm or edit the prefilled text and submit.

Message capture may show a chooser when multiple intake actions apply to the same content.

Turn an idea into a post

  1. In the Ideas list, open the row actions for an idea.
  2. Choose the action to create a draft. You need at least one connected account selected for the brand.
  3. Slash Social opens or updates the Create flow and starts generation in the background when required.
  4. Choose More like this to generate angle variants when angles exist for that idea. If no angles exist yet, the flow may offer a fallback path or open an angle picker modal.

Promoted ideas can finish as draft saved, pending approval, queued, or generation failed if background work does not complete.

Use recommendations in Create

When Create shows recommended platform, time, pillar, or format suggestions:

  1. Choose Use on a recommendation to apply it to the current draft.
  2. Choose Why? to open the rationale modal before applying a suggestion.

Recommendations are optional. You can ignore them and set fields manually in the create modal.

Success criteria

You have finished the relevant branch when:

  • New ideas appear in the Ideas list for the active brand.
  • Ideas also appear in the Ideas Slack List when your workspace uses Lists.
  • Drafts created from ideas appear under Posts and Create with the idea linked as source context.
  • Filters and pagination in the Ideas modal stay consistent when you reopen the list.

Troubleshooting

Save Idea rejects your text

You may be saving a duplicate. Edit the text or open the existing idea from the list.

Create draft from idea does nothing

Confirm at least one social account is connected for the active brand. Reselect the brand in App Home and retry.

More like this shows no angles

The idea may not have angle variants yet. Create the first draft from the idea, then retry angle generation when the action is available.

Ideas list shows the wrong brand

Switch the active brand in App Home before opening Open Ideas. The list always reflects the current brand context.

Generation fails after promoting an idea

Check Create home for failed jobs and retry when offered. See Retry a failed generation.
