Create your first post
Set up create your first post during your first Slash Social workspace run.
Goal
Create one simple post in Slack to confirm brand scope, account selection, copy, media, and review routing before you scale content volume. When this tutorial succeeds, you have a draft saved or a post submitted for approval under the correct brand and platform account.
Before you begin
Complete these checks before you open the Create modal:
- At least one social account is connected and healthy for the active brand.
- You know which platform account and post format you want to test.
- If your workspace uses approvals, an approver is available for the next step.
The Create modal lets you pick a profile, add copy and media, then save or schedule the post. You can also generate copy with AI when you need a starting point.
Set it up
Open Create
- Type
/social-createor open/socialand choose Create. - Confirm the active brand at the top of the modal. Switch brands if you manage more than one.
- Wait for the full compose modal to load if you opened Create from App Home.
You can also reach Create from the command palette shortcut when your workspace has it enabled.
Choose account and format
- Select the platform account that should publish this post.
- Pick the post format for that platform (for example, a feed post, reel, or story where supported).
- If the format changes, review any media requirements that appear in the modal.
Add copy and media
- Enter caption text in the compose fields, or generate copy with AI when you want a draft to edit.
- Add media when the selected format requires it. Some formats block save or preview until media is attached.
- Open the preview when you want to confirm how copy and media look together before you submit.
If you rely on saved assets, content library access is available on Starter plans and above. AI planning assist is included on all public plans.
Save or submit
- Review the preview one last time.
- Save as a draft if you want to finish later, or submit for review when your workspace requires approval before publishing.
- Note the status shown when the modal closes: draft saved, queued, pending approval, or generation failed.
Confirm it works
Open the Create work center in App Home or return to /social and check that the new post appears with the expected brand, account, and status.
| What you should see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft saved | The post is stored and editable. You or a teammate can finish and submit it later. |
| Pending approval | The post entered review and waits for an approver. |
| Queued | The post is lined up for the next publishing step after approval or scheduling. |
| Generation failed | Copy or media generation did not finish. Retry from the failed job entry or open Create again. |
If the modal reports that media is required, attach the file type the format expects before you save or preview again.
Recovery paths
Media is required before save or preview
Some formats need an image or video before Slash Social can save the post. Add the required media, then retry. See Media is required before saving or previewing for format-specific checks.
Generation failed
When AI or media generation fails, the post may show generation failed instead of a draft. Open the failed jobs list from Create work center or retry generation from the notification if one was sent.
Wrong brand or account
Switch to the correct brand before you create again. Posts always stay scoped to the brand and account you select in the modal.
Next step
If your workspace uses approvals, continue with Approve and publish your first post. Otherwise follow Create and schedule a post to pick a publish time and confirm scheduling behavior.
