Configure gamification and kudos

Follow the configure gamification and kudos workflow in Slack.

Goal

Configure gamification, kudos, and employee advocacy so your team sees posting momentum, earns karma and badges, recognizes helpful work, and can share published posts from the advocacy feed.

When to use this

Use this workflow when you want to turn on team recognition surfaces, send kudos to teammates, enable employee advocacy for a brand, or tune gamification notification preferences. Brand admins configure advocacy settings. Any team member with recognition enabled can view momentum and give kudos when peer kudos is allowed.

Before you begin

Confirm these prerequisites:

  • An active brand is selected.
  • You can open the Settings work center for advocacy and notification changes.
  • For advocacy settings submit, you need brand manage permission for that brand.

Steps

View karma, badges, and team momentum

  1. Open Slash Social App Home or switch to any work center (Create, Plan, Workflow, Engage, or Insights).
  2. Scroll to Team Momentum when recognition is enabled for the brand.
  3. Review team cadence progress, queue clears, approvals on time, and your weekly karma.
  4. Tap View badges to open badge details.
  5. Tap View Rewards in the work center footer to open the karma leaderboard when your admin made it visible.
  6. Use Open leaderboard from Team Momentum when that button appears. Admins always see it when leaderboard visibility is not hidden.

If Team Momentum is missing, recognition may be turned off for the brand or Show team momentum may be disabled.

Give kudos to a teammate

  1. Type /social and search for kudos.
  2. Choose the kudos action, mention a teammate, and add the reason.
  3. Confirm Slack shows kudos sent and karma points awarded.

You cannot give kudos to yourself. Kudos fail when peer kudos is disabled for the brand.

Configure employee advocacy

Brand admins configure advocacy so employees can share published posts.

  1. Type /social and switch to Settings.
  2. Open the Settings hub and choose Employee Advocacy, then Configure.
  3. In Advocacy Settings, check Enable advocacy broadcast and feed visibility for this brand.
  4. Optionally pick an Advocacy Broadcast Channel so new share-ready posts post to a Slack channel.
  5. Save. You should see Advocacy settings saved.

Advocacy settings submit requires brand manage permission and validates metadata and channel selection before updates apply.

Share posts from the advocacy feed

  1. Open Engage and choose Advocacy Feed, then Open Feed (visible when advocacy is enabled for the brand).
  2. Pick a share-ready post and use the share actions for LinkedIn or X when those platforms apply.
  3. Edit the caption in the share modal if needed, then submit to complete the share flow.

Use skip or dismiss actions when you do not want to share a post. Share actions for X and LinkedIn open platform-specific share modals.

Tune gamification notifications

  1. From Settings, open Notifications (Billing/Admin card overflow or the notifications entry in the Settings hub).
  2. In the gamification section, set preferences for new badges, karma leaderboard posts, kudos received, and recognition nudges.
  3. Save your changes.

Confirm it worked

Check these signals after you configure and use recognition features:

  • Team Momentum shows current counts for the active brand.
  • Kudos return a confirmation to the sender with karma points awarded.
  • Advocacy feed lists posts only after advocacy is enabled for the brand.
  • Share actions open the platform share modal without errors.
  • Advocacy settings save shows Advocacy settings saved.

Terminal save states include saved, active, or skipped depending on the action.

Troubleshooting

Team Momentum or leaderboard is missing

Recognition may be off for the brand or Show team momentum may be disabled. An admin can review gamification visibility settings.

Kudos fails or returns an error

You cannot kudos yourself. Peer kudos may be disabled for the brand. Confirm the recipient is a teammate on the brand.

Advocacy settings do not save

You need brand manage permission. Confirm channel selection and required fields in Advocacy Settings, then submit again.

Advocacy feed is empty

Enable advocacy broadcast and feed visibility in Advocacy Settings first. The feed appears only for brands with advocacy enabled.

Share action does not open

Confirm the post is share-ready and the platform (LinkedIn or X) applies to that item. Use skip if you do not intend to share.

You need command or navigation context

See Slash commands and Work centers.
