Track and respond to competitors

Follow the track and respond to competitors workflow in Slack.

Goal

Monitor competitor accounts, review alerts, and log responses when you need competitive context beside your own brand metrics in Slack.

When to use this

Use competitive tracking when you want a single place to watch rival accounts, tune alert thresholds, export snapshots for stakeholders, and record how your team responded to a competitor moment. This workflow fits weekly competitive reviews, campaign planning, and fast reaction when a rival post spikes.

Before you begin

Competitive tracking is included on the Scale plan. Select the active brand before you open competitor tools so the dashboard, alerts, and exports stay scoped to the brand you manage.

Confirm your org is on Scale. See Plan comparison if you are unsure which plan you have.

Steps

Open the competitor dashboard

  1. Open /social and search for competitors in the command palette.
  2. Run the competitors action. When prompted, choose the dashboard branch if the flow offers dashboard, add, list, or top-posts options.
  3. Review tracked competitors on the competitive dashboard modal.
  4. Choose Manage when you need to add or edit competitor entries.

Add or edit competitors

  1. From the dashboard, open Manage to reach the competitor manage modal.
  2. Add a new competitor or edit an existing row.
  3. Submit the edit modal to save changes for the active brand.

Configure monitoring

  1. On the dashboard or manage modal, choose Configure.
  2. In the configure modal, set monitor thresholds and alert channel targets for the brand.
  3. Submit to save monitoring settings.

Handle competitor alerts

When an alert arrives in Slack, use the actions on the alert card:

ActionUse it when
AnalyzeYou need AI or structured analysis of the post.
View postYou need the source post details.
SnoozeThe alert should pause for now.
DismissThe alert no longer needs attention.

Open the alert dashboard modal when you need the full alert context before you act.

Refresh and export data

  1. On the competitive dashboard, choose Refresh to rebuild the snapshot. Slack confirms the request while the refresh finishes.
  2. Choose Export to receive a CSV in your DM when export delivery succeeds.

Respond to a competitor moment

  1. On an alert or dashboard row, choose Respond.
  2. Write your response in the respond modal.
  3. Submit to record the response in Slash Social for the active brand.

View competitor detail

Open a competitor row from the dashboard when you need the competitor details modal with metrics for that account.

Save an insight from the dashboard

When you spot a pattern worth tracking, use the save insight action on the competitive dashboard to store a note tied to the active brand. Saved insights stay available for later review alongside refreshed metrics.

Confirm it worked

The dashboard lists every competitor you configured for the active brand. After Refresh, updated metrics appear on the dashboard or in the competitor detail modal. A successful Export delivers a CSV to your DM. Submitted responses appear in the respond flow history for the brand.

Troubleshooting

Competitive tools do not open or show an upgrade prompt

Competitive tracking requires the Scale plan. Confirm your plan in Plan comparison or ask a billing admin to upgrade.

Dashboard shows the wrong brand

Select the correct active brand in App Home, then reopen the competitors action from /social.

Refresh finishes but numbers look stale

Platform sync can lag. Wait a few minutes and choose Refresh again. If metrics stay empty, see Analytics, learning, and reports for how analytics data is collected.

Export never arrives in DM

Retry Export after refresh completes. Check that Slack can DM you from the Slash Social app and that export delivery succeeded in the confirmation message.

Configure submit fails

Reopen Configure and confirm threshold and channel fields are valid before you submit again.

Save competitor changes before you refresh the dashboard so the report uses the latest tracked accounts.
