Manage the Asset Library
Follow the manage the asset library workflow in Slack.
Goal
Upload, tag, organize, and reuse images, video, and brand files in the Asset Library so your team attaches consistent media across Create workflows.
When to use this
Use the Asset Library when you need a shared pool of approved creative, when you are building a post and want to pick existing media instead of uploading again, or when you receive files through Slack that should be saved for later reuse.
Before you begin
- You have an active brand selected.
- Your workspace includes the content library. It is available on Starter, Team, and Scale plans; it is not included on the Free plan.
- Direct modal uploads are limited to 10 MB per file. Library saves also count toward your workspace storage quota.
- Some row actions (rename, tag, delete) depend on your role. If a menu option is missing, ask a brand admin.
Steps
Open the Asset Library
Choose any entry point that fits where you are working:
- From App Home: Open Create, open the Libraries overflow, and choose Media Library.
- From Command Palette: Type
/socialand search for Asset Library or Media Library. - During Create: In Choose Media, choose Select from Asset Library.
- From a DM: Send a file to the Slash Social bot in a direct message and choose Save to library when prompted.
All paths open the same library browser with filters and pagination.
Browse, filter, and paginate
- Apply filters for type, tags, or collections.
- Use Next to move through pages. Filters stay applied as you paginate.
- To inspect one asset, open its row menu.
Decide what you need before you filter: a campaign collection, a tag you applied last week, or a file type (image versus video) narrows the list faster than scrolling every page.
Manage an asset from the row menu
Open the row menu on an asset row. Depending on your role, you may see:
- Rename to fix display names.
- Tag or Edit tags to add or remove labels.
- Add to collection to group assets for a campaign or theme.
- Disable or Delete when an asset should leave active rotation.
Submit each modal after you edit. The list refreshes in place.
Upload brand assets (logos, fonts, backgrounds)
From Settings or brand asset cards you can upload logos, backgrounds, fonts, icons, or textures. Each asset type follows scope rules for org versus brand.
- Open the upload surface from Settings or the brand asset card.
- Choose the file or URL the modal requests.
- Submit and wait for ingestion to finish before you attach the asset to a post.
Attach assets in Create
From the library list
- Find the asset.
- Choose Use to attach it in Create or Choose Media.
From the asset picker during Create
- Search or filter the library.
- Select assets up to the allowed cap shown in the modal.
- Submit. The draft media summary lists your selections.
If Create blocks save because media is required, attach at least one asset before you submit the draft. See Media is required before saving or previewing if the picker will not accept your file.
Work with collections
From the library or Settings surfaces you can open Collections to view grouped assets. Use collections when several files belong to one campaign or client deliverable. Add assets from the row menu when you need to move files into a collection.
Success criteria
The library is working when:
- New uploads appear after ingestion completes (refresh the list if you uploaded seconds ago).
- Tags and collection membership match your last save.
- Use or the Create asset picker attaches files and the draft media summary shows them.
- Filters and pagination keep state as you move between pages.
Troubleshooting
The library does not open or shows an upgrade message
Confirm your plan includes the content library (Starter, Team, or Scale). Free workspaces need to upgrade before the library is available.
Upload fails or the file never appears
Check the 10 MB per-file limit for direct modal uploads. Very large video may need another intake path (for example, DM to the bot or an import workflow). Retry after ingestion time passes.
You cannot rename, tag, or delete
Your role may be view-only for library assets. Ask a brand admin to adjust permissions or perform the change for you.
Create still says media is required
You selected assets in the picker but did not submit, or the format requires a different media type. Reopen Choose Media, confirm selections, and submit. See Choose media for a post and Media and assets library for format rules.
