Work Object preview is missing
Diagnose and recover when work object preview is missing needs attention.
A shared post link or channel card shows status text but no image, video, or rich preview when someone opens Preview or pastes the link in Slack.
Symptoms
You may see one or more of these patterns:
- Preview opens with copy and status only, with no image or video.
- A channel card shows actions and status but no media thumbnail.
- Pasting a Slash Social link produces a plain URL with no unfurl.
- Unfurl appears but media never loads while status text is correct.
- Preview worked earlier but stopped updating after a status change.
Likely causes
- The post is still generating, rendering, or waiting on media.
- Media exists in App Home but is not yet reachable for Slack preview.
- The active brand does not match the post on the card or link.
- You lack read access to the brand that owns the post.
- The workspace app install or permissions are out of date, so unfurls do not render.
- Channel cards and link unfurls read the same post record; both can lag while media catches up.
You should be able to see the post or card in Slack for the expected brand and have read access to that brand’s content.
Checks
Post readiness
- Open the same post from Workflow or Create in App Home and note its status.
- If the post is still generating, rendering, or waiting on media, wait for Slack to notify you that work finished.
- Open Preview again after the post reaches draft, pending approval, scheduled, or published state with media attached.
Preview shows a text-only message when media is not ready yet instead of a broken image.
Access and brand scope
- Confirm the active brand matches the post shown on the card.
- If Slack shows an access message instead of content, ask a brand admin to grant you read access for that brand.
- Switch brands in App Home and reopen the link when the post belongs to a different brand in your org.
Link unfurl in channel
- Paste the Slash Social link in a channel where the app is installed.
- Confirm the unfurl shows current status and actions, even when rich media is unavailable.
- If the link stays plain text, see Install or reinstall does not complete so the workspace has current app permissions.
Channel cards and unfurls use the same post record. You can approve, review, or open the full workflow from the card while preview media catches up.
Fixes
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Media still processing | Wait for generation or rendering to finish, then reopen Preview. |
| Failed generation or render | Fix media from App Home or Create, retry the job, then reopen Preview. |
| Wrong brand | Switch to the correct brand in App Home and reopen the link or card. |
| Access denied | Ask a brand admin for read access, then reopen Preview. |
| Plain link unfurl | Reinstall or refresh app permissions, then paste the link again in an installed channel. |
| Status updated, preview stale | Refresh the channel message or reopen Preview after the post moves to the next workflow step. |
Confirm the fix
Preview opens with image or video when media exists and is reachable. Unfurls and channel cards show updated status after the post moves to the next workflow step. Plain URLs are replaced by cards with status and actions in channels where the app is installed.
Prevent it next time
- Wait for generation and rendering to finish before sharing preview links with stakeholders.
- Share links only after the post is on the correct brand and reviewers have access.
- Paste links in channels where Slash Social is installed so unfurls can render.
- Keep the app install current after permission or feature changes.
- Use channel cards for decisions while media catches up; cards and unfurls share the same post record.
