Platform validation blocks a post
Diagnose and recover when platform validation blocks a post needs attention.
Slash Social checks each post against the selected social profile and format before you save, preview, approve, or publish. When something breaks those rules, the Create or review modal shows validation errors or warnings and blocks the next step until you fix them.
Symptoms
- Validation errors or warnings appear under caption, media, or format fields while you edit in Create or review.
- Save, preview, or approve stays disabled with a platform-specific message.
- The post remains in draft or pending approval because validation never clears.
- Scheduling controls warn that the chosen time is outside posting windows.
Checks
Read the validation block in the modal before you change content:
- Note which platform and format each line refers to.
- Confirm the target social profile is connected and healthy in Settings under Connected Accounts.
- Check whether the issue is media (missing video for a reel, too few carousel items), copy (caption, alt text, or link length), or scheduling (time outside cadence windows).
- Distinguish errors (must fix) from warnings (may allow continue depending on the message).
- If you edited copy in review, confirm you saved inline edits before you approve. Unsaved changes can leave validation visible on an older snapshot.
- When multiple platforms are targeted, fix validation for each platform row. Clearing one target does not clear others on the same item.
Likely causes:
- The format needs media you have not attached (for example a reel without video, or a carousel with too few items).
- Caption, alt text, or link text exceeds the limit for that platform.
- The post mixes options the platform does not allow together.
- The connected account is disconnected, expired, or still connecting.
- The scheduled time falls outside posting windows for the brand timezone.
Fixes
- Read each validation line. The message names the platform and the constraint. Fix the field it points to first.
- Adjust copy, media, or format to match what the platform allows. See Platform accounts and format support and the Platform support reference.
- Reconnect the social profile when health shows expired or disconnected in Settings under Connected Accounts.
- Fix scheduling by picking a time inside posting windows or updating cadence in Settings under Cadence.
- Save or preview again. Clear all errors before you approve; address warnings based on whether the modal lets you continue.
For posts already in review, use Edit and review a post to apply the same fixes from the review modal.
Confirm the fix
Validation messages disappear and save, preview, or approve completes. The post appears in Plan or review with the platform target you expect.
Prevent it next time
- Pick the format before you attach media so required assets match the platform from the start.
- Keep connected accounts healthy so validation does not block on account status alone.
- Align schedule picks with brand cadence windows before you send a post to approval.
- Review Platform accounts and format support when you add a new network or format to the brand.
- Use preview in Create or review after each major edit so validation surfaces before approvers see the post.
Contact support
Contact support when the same validation message persists after you meet the stated requirement, or when the error text does not match what you see on the platform.
Send the workspace, brand, platform, format, and a screenshot of the validation block. Include whether the post was in Create or review when the message appeared.
