DM duplicate detection

Review current dm duplicate detection behavior, availability, limits, and operating details for Slash Social.

Catch duplicate ideas and knowledge entries when teammates DM the same source text or URL.

Plan access

Requires the Team plan or higher.

Where to find it

  1. DM Slash Social content you want saved as an idea or knowledge entry.
  2. When a close match already exists for that brand, Slash Social opens a duplicate review modal instead of creating a second record immediately.

Dedup applies to idea and knowledge destinations from DM intake. Draft and repurpose paths may still proceed without the duplicate modal when no similar record exists.

When detection runs

  • Destination is save as idea or add to knowledge.
  • Source text is at least 20 characters after trimming.
  • Your organization has duplicate detection enabled on a Team plan or higher.

Exact URL checks normalize host casing, www, default ports, fragments, trailing slashes, query ordering, and common tracking parameters. They do not consume AI quota. Semantic checks compare up to the 20 most recent ideas or 30 most recent brand knowledge entries and open review at an 85% or higher match.

The modal shows the match percentage, whether the match came from the same normalized source URL or semantic similarity, and a preview of the existing item.

Decisions

  • Use existing opens the matched item and does not create another record.
  • Edit before save opens a prefilled save form so you can make the source materially different before submitting.
  • Create new anyway opens the same scoped save flow while recording that you deliberately bypassed the duplicate warning.

Each decision rechecks Team-plan access, the current user, workspace, active brand, brand permission, and the existing target. Decisions are written to the audit log with actor, brand, workspace, target, and request reference.

Safe fallbacks

  • Text shorter than 20 characters skips semantic comparison.
  • If AI quota, payment status, or the embedding provider blocks semantic comparison, Slash Social explains that duplicate review was skipped and keeps manual save available.
  • If the modal is stale, replayed by another user, or points to a removed item, reopen the action from the original DM.

Verify

Sending the same URL or a paragraph above the semantic threshold twice to the bot for the same brand surfaces duplicate review on the second attempt. The same source in another brand or organization does not appear. Use existing creates no record; edit and create-anyway open a prefilled form and create only after you submit it.

Usage note

Use this page as a lookup when a workflow, plan comparison, or troubleshooting guide mentions DM duplicate detection. Confirm the active brand, connected account, and workspace plan before promising the capability to a customer. If the article marks the feature as not launch-ready or hidden, treat it as operator context and do not describe it as available in customer onboarding.

When the page lists plan availability, compare it with Plan comparison and Usage limits rather than old sales names. When availability is not stated, avoid inventing a plan gate; verify access in Billing & Plan from Settings. Capture the workspace, brand, feature name, and blocker text before you contact support.
