Plan and reschedule slots
Follow the plan and reschedule slots workflow in Slack.
Goal
Reschedule existing posts or plan new content for open calendar slots when timing, copy, or slot assignment needs to change. You can move items between slots, run guided smart reschedule, fill empty slots with suggested variations, or queue an approved post quickly.
When to use this
Use this workflow when:
- A scheduled post needs a new time inside your cadence windows.
- You want to move an item to a different open slot without rewriting the post.
- An empty calendar slot needs a new draft.
- An approved post is ready to enter the brand queue from its preview.
Choose a different path when you only need copy or media edits (Edit from preview) or when the post should leave the calendar entirely (Delete from preview).
Before you begin
Confirm you can access the Plan work center.
Requirements:
- The correct active brand selected in App Home.
- The item or empty slot still exists in Plan.
- Interactive planning for calendar, board, queue, and slot planning views (included on Free, Starter, Team, and Scale plans).
- Guided smart reschedule when you use the Reschedule flow from item preview. Smart reschedule is included on Starter, Team, and Scale plans; it is not included on the Free plan.
If smart reschedule is not on your plan, use Move to slot or manual slot selection where available.
Steps
Reschedule from item preview
- Open the post preview from the Plan calendar, board, or queue.
- Choose Reschedule to open the smart reschedule flow.
- Pick a new slot inside your cadence windows.
- Submit to apply the new schedule.
Use Edit when you need copy or media changes without moving the slot. Use Delete when the item should leave the calendar and queue lists.
Move to another slot
Use this path when you want to pick a target slot directly instead of the guided reschedule flow.
- From Plan, open Move to slot for the item.
- Select the target slot in the modal.
- Submit to move the item.
Confirm the preview modal refreshes with the new scheduled time. If the plan changed, the target slot is occupied, or the item version is stale, Slack shows a clear error and leaves the schedule unchanged.
Plan a new item for an empty slot
- Open slot planning from an empty calendar slot.
- Review suggested variations in the slot planning wizard.
- Select a variation to create a draft item.
For manual control, open Custom slot planning and enter caption, format, and platform yourself. Custom planning validates your inputs before creating the item.
The wizard preserves your progress as you move between steps. You can back out without creating an item if none of the variations fit.
Quick queue from preview
When a post is ready to enter the queue:
- Open the post preview.
- Choose Quick queue.
Slash Social opens the queue modal with validated brand and item context. Confirm the slot and submit to add the item to the brand queue.
Success criteria
Slot planning and reschedule succeeded when:
- The item shows the updated scheduled time in Plan calendar, board, and queue views.
- The preview modal reflects the new slot after Move to slot or Reschedule.
- New items from slot planning appear as drafts in the expected slot.
- Quick queue places the item in the brand queue at the chosen time.
- Deleted items disappear from queue and calendar lists.
Troubleshooting
Reschedule is unavailable
Confirm your plan includes guided smart reschedule (Starter, Team, or Scale). On Free, use Move to slot or edit the schedule from queue actions where available.
Move to slot shows an error
Common causes:
- Another item took the target slot after you opened the modal. Pick a different open slot.
- The plan changed while the modal was open. Close and reopen Move to slot.
- The item was edited elsewhere and is no longer current. Refresh the preview and try again.
No variations appear in slot planning
Check that the empty slot is still open and the active brand matches the calendar you are viewing. Reopen slot planning from the slot if the calendar refreshed.
Custom slot planning fails validation
Read the inline errors for caption, format, or platform fields. Required combinations depend on the platforms connected to the brand.
Quick queue opens without the expected item
Confirm you opened Quick queue from the correct post preview and that the active brand matches the item. Switch brands in App Home if needed.
The item time looks wrong after reschedule
Verify brand and account timezones in Settings. Cadence windows respect timezone settings when offering slots. See Calendars, cadence, and timezones for details.
Scheduled posts fail after rescheduling
Rescheduling changes timing, not account health. If publish fails later, see Publishing failed.
