Manage recurring series

Follow the manage recurring series workflow in Slack.

Goal

Manage recurring series when queued posts repeat on a schedule and you need to change the rule or remove future instances. You control whether edits apply to existing queued posts or only to the series rule going forward.

When to use this

Use this workflow when:

  • A queued row belongs to a recurring series and you need to change frequency or end date.
  • You want to stop future instances without deleting posts that already went live.
  • You need to delete an entire series or clear unsent future copies.
  • A repeating queue pattern no longer matches your campaign plan.

Use standard item actions for one-off posts. Non-recurring rows in the queue overflow menu route to the normal approvals flow instead of series edit or delete.

Before you begin

Confirm you can access the Plan work center.

Requirements:

  • At least one queued item that belongs to a recurring series.
  • The correct active brand selected in App Home. Series actions are brand-scoped.
  • Interactive planning enabled for your workspace (included on Free, Starter, Team, and Scale plans).

Identify whether you need to edit the series rule, update future unsent posts, or delete the series entirely. That choice determines which overflow action and scope option you pick.

Steps

Open the brand queue

  1. Open Plan and go to the brand queue, or type /social and search for queue.
  2. Locate a row that belongs to a recurring series. Recurring rows expose series actions in the overflow menu.
  3. Open the overflow menu on that row.

If the row is not part of a recurring series, the overflow menu shows standard approvals actions instead of Edit series or Delete series.

Edit a recurring series

  1. From the overflow menu, choose Edit series.
  2. In the edit scope modal, pick one scope:
    • This and future unsent posts: updates the rule and applies changes to queued instances that have not been sent.
    • Rule only; leave existing posts: updates the series rule without changing posts already in the queue.
  3. Adjust frequency, end date, or other series fields shown in the modal.
  4. Submit to apply your choice.

The modal closes while Slash Social updates the selected series. Invalid frequency or end-date values show errors in the modal and leave the series unchanged until you fix them.

Delete a recurring series

  1. From the overflow menu on a recurring row, choose Delete series.
  2. Read the delete confirmation and confirm the scope when prompted.
  3. Submit to remove the selected instances.

After deletion, removed instances should no longer appear in the queue. Posts outside the confirmed scope stay on their prior schedule.

Verify scope after edit or delete

Reopen the brand queue and confirm:

  • Only the scope you selected changed.
  • Existing posts keep their prior schedule when you chose Rule only; leave existing posts.
  • Future unsent posts reflect the new rule when you chose This and future unsent posts.

Success criteria

Series management succeeded when:

  • The edit scope modal closes without errors after submit.
  • Queue rows match the scope you selected (updated, removed, or unchanged as expected).
  • The series rule reflects your new frequency or end date when you edited the rule.
  • Non-recurring items in the queue were not affected.

If errors appeared in the modal, the series stayed unchanged until you corrected the invalid fields.

Troubleshooting

Edit series or Delete series is missing

The row may not belong to a recurring series. Use standard queue or approvals actions for one-off items. Confirm you opened the overflow menu on a recurring row, not a summary card from another surface.

The modal says the item was not found

Another teammate may have deleted the row or changed brands. Refresh App Home, confirm the active brand, and reopen the queue.

The action routes to approvals instead of series edit

The item is not a recurring series. Use approvals actions for that row, or locate the correct recurring queue item.

Submit failed on frequency or end date

Read the inline errors in the modal. Common issues include an end date before the series start or a frequency the rule does not support. Fix the fields and submit again.

Deleted instances still appear

Refresh the queue view. If rows remain outside the scope you confirmed, reopen the series and verify which scope the delete confirmation applied.

I need to change a single instance, not the whole series

Use item-level actions from the post preview or queue row for a one-off reschedule or delete. Reserve Edit series and Delete series for changes that should affect the repeating pattern.
