Save Slack messages as social content
Follow the save slack messages as social content workflow in Slack.
Goal
Turn a Slack message into structured social content. Capture a comment, customer quote, launch note, or thread reply and route it into the Create workflow that fits your next step.
When to use this
Use message capture when the best source material already lives in Slack:
- A customer quote should become a draft post or idea
- A launch thread contains copy you want to repurpose
- Product feedback should land in a brief or knowledge base note
- Campaign planning needs a Slack message attached as input
You can start from a message link, pasted text, or the message shortcut when Slack shows Slash Social actions on a message.
Before you begin
Confirm these items:
- Slash Social is installed in your workspace
- You can read the message you want to capture (including threaded replies when the thread matters)
- An active brand is selected in App Home when your workspace has more than one brand
Content library paths that store reusable assets require the Content library feature on Starter, Team, or Scale plans. Core capture paths such as Create post and Save as idea do not depend on the library.
Steps
1. Prepare the source message
- In Slack, open the message you want to capture. Expand threaded replies when the thread adds context.
- Copy the message link from Slack’s Copy link action when you want Slash Social to fetch the full message and keep the source attached.
- Copy the message text instead when a link is not useful (for example, a private channel you cannot link, or text you edited for clarity).
Message links work best when Slash Social can read the channel. Pasted text is the fallback when link intake fails.
2. Open Slash Social intake
Open Slash Social from any of these entry points:
- Type
/socialand search for the action you need in the Command Palette - Type
/social-createto open Create directly, then paste your link or text in the intake path - Open the Command Palette from App Home
- Send a direct message to the Slash Social app and paste your link or text
Pick the entry point closest to where you are working. Channel conversations often start with /social or /social-create. App Home works when you are already planning content there.
3. Paste and choose an action
- Paste the message link or text into the intake field Slash Social shows.
- Pick the action that matches what you want to do next:
| Action | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Create post | You want a draft post seeded from the message |
| Save as idea | You want to park the message as an idea for later |
| Import & Repurpose | You want to reshape the source into new formats |
| Add to brief | The message belongs in a content brief |
| Save to KB | The message should become knowledge base material |
| Add to campaign | The message is input for an active campaign |
- Select the brand if prompted.
- Complete any follow-up modal for the path you chose (for example, format selection in Create or brief fields for Add to brief).
4. Finish the follow-up workflow
Each action opens its own modal or confirmation. Treat message capture as step one:
- Create post continues in the Create modal. Add media, accounts, and scheduling before you save or submit for review.
- Save as idea stores the idea with source metadata when a link was used.
- Import & Repurpose, Add to brief, Save to KB, and Add to campaign each have their own submit steps. Finish those modals before you close Slack.
Success criteria
You finished capture when:
- Slack shows a confirmation or opens the next modal for your chosen path
- When you used a Slack message link, saved ideas and drafts keep the source attached
- The saved record (draft, idea, brief note, KB entry, or campaign input) exists in the work center you expect
- Draft results such as draft saved, queued, or pending approval appear only after you complete the follow-up workflow, not immediately after paste
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Link cannot be read | Channel access or deleted message | Paste the message text instead and capture again |
| No actions on the message | Shortcut not available in that context | Use /social or /social-create and paste the link manually |
| Wrong brand attached | Active brand in App Home | Switch brand in App Home, then capture again |
| Source not attached after save | Text paste instead of link | Recapture with a message link when channel access allows |
| Add to brief blocked | Brief access or brand scope | Confirm brand and brief permissions, then retry |
| Create opens empty | Intake path cleared | Paste the link or text again before choosing Create post |
| Action missing in palette | Role or plan limits for that task | Search /social again after checking active brand; see Slack slash commands |
