Promote replies and ideas into posts

Follow the promote replies and ideas into posts workflow in Slack.

Goal

Turn saved ideas and inbox replies into drafts or posts, and manage boost campaigns when published content needs paid amplification. Promote keeps conversation context attached; boost controls budget, duration, and status after a post is live.

When to use this

Promote when a saved idea is ready for a full post, or when an inbox reply or captured message should become an idea or draft instead of staying in triage.

Boost when a published post needs quick or custom paid promotion, or when you need to pause, resume, extend, retry, or inspect metrics on an active boost.

Before you begin

  • You have access to the Create work center.
  • Select an active brand. Promote flows need a valid idea or conversation context.
  • For reply promote, start from inbox triage, message capture, or the Save to Slash Social create-post shortcut path so Slash Social can resolve the conversation.
  • Boost actions require a published post eligible for promotion on the target platform. Account connection and publishing readiness still apply.

Steps

Promote an idea to a post

  1. Open the idea from the ideas list or library.
  2. Choose Promote to post (or the promote action on the idea row).
  3. Slash Social confirms the request in Slack while the promote modal opens.
  4. Complete required fields in the promote modal and submit.

The idea becomes a draft or queued post depending on the fields you set. Generation may run if the format requires it.

Promote a reply to a post

  1. From inbox triage or message capture, choose Promote reply to post. You can also start from the message capture shortcut chooser after you save a message to Slash Social.
  2. In the promote modal, pick whether the outcome is a new idea or a draft post.
  3. Fill required conversation and brand fields.
  4. Submit.

Which outcome to pick

  • Choose new idea when the reply is inspiration but copy is not ready.
  • Choose draft post when you want to edit and schedule immediately in Create.

Slash Social branches the follow-up: ideas land in your ideas list; drafts open in Create with conversation context attached.

Verify a promote action

  1. Open Create or Ideas for the active brand.
  2. Confirm the new item shows the expected status (saved draft, queued job, or pending approval after submit).
  3. Open the item and confirm the source reply or idea link is still present.

Failures show a Slack message without discarding the original idea or conversation. Read the message, fix missing fields, and submit again.

Start a boost on a published post

From the post preview or boost entry on a published item:

  1. Choose Boost post quick for a preset promotion, or Boost post custom to set details in the boost modal.
  2. Set budget, duration, and other required fields.
  3. Submit the boost modal.

Slash Social creates the boost and tracks status for later actions.

Manage an active boost

From boost controls on the post or boost metrics view:

  • Pause and Resume to stop and restart spend.
  • Extend duration when the campaign should run longer.
  • Update budget when you need more or less spend.
  • Retry after a failed boost attempt.
  • End when the campaign should stop completely.
  • View boost metrics to inspect performance.

Use quick boost for standard cases; use custom boost when you need full control over budget and duration.

Success criteria

Promote

  • Promoted ideas or replies appear in Create or Ideas with the expected status.
  • Brand and conversation fields match the source you promoted.
  • No duplicate items unless you intentionally promoted twice.

Boost

  • The boost modal submits without validation errors.
  • Pause, resume, and end actions reflect in boost status.
  • Metrics view loads when you need to confirm delivery.

After promote, the new item may appear as draft saved, queued, pending approval, or generation failed if media or generation does not complete. If generation fails, reopen the item from Create or the Failed Jobs view and retry.

Troubleshooting

Promote modal does not open

Confirm you selected an active brand before promoting. Idea promote needs a valid idea id; reply promote needs conversation context from inbox or message capture. Reselect the message and try Promote reply to post again.

Required fields block submit

The promote modal enforces brand and conversation metadata. Fill every required select and text field. Error text appears on the modal without losing your prior input.

Promoted item missing from Create

Refresh App Home or reopen Ideas. Confirm you are viewing the same brand you chose in the modal.

Boost submit fails

Check that the post is published and the social account is connected. Publishing readiness issues block new boosts until accounts are healthy.

Boost retry keeps failing

Open View boost metrics or the error message in Slack for the failure reason. Use Retry after you fix account or budget issues. End the boost if you no longer want to spend.

You need another entry point

Type /social and use Command Palette to open Create, inbox, or ideas. See Slash commands reference.
