Filter and snooze inbox work
Follow the filter and snooze inbox work workflow in Slack.
Goal
Narrow the Engage inbox to the work you need right now and snooze conversations or work items until the right follow-up time.
When to use this
Use filters when the inbox list is too broad and you need a focused slice by platform, status, assignment, or other facets your plan exposes.
Use snooze when a conversation or work item is valid but not urgent:
- Quick snooze presets cover short deferrals such as 30 minutes, 2 hours, tomorrow, or one week.
- Custom or Smart time covers a specific return time when presets do not fit.
Filter first to find the right rows, then snooze or act on individual items.
Before you begin
Confirm these prerequisites:
- You can open the Engage inbox for the active brand. See Use Engage home and the inbox if you have not opened the inbox yet.
- The correct brand is selected. Filters apply with brand context and persist the facets you choose.
Unified inbox requires Team or Scale. Sentiment-related filter facets appear only when your plan includes the sentiment features those facets require.
Steps
Open inbox filters from App Home
- Type
/socialand open the Engage work center. - Open the inbox from the inbox card.
- Choose Filters from App Home or from the inbox modal toolbar.
- In the filters modal, pick platform, status, assignment, or other facets the modal offers for your plan.
- Apply filters and confirm the list updates to show only matching rows.
Filter options match your plan and feature access. Facets you do not see may require a higher plan or an admin change.
Filter from the inbox modal
- Open the full inbox modal from Engage home.
- Choose Filters inside the modal toolbar.
- Set the facets you need in the inbox modal filters form.
- Submit the filter form with the brand context intact.
If Slack cannot confirm the active brand, it asks you to reopen the inbox from App Home before applying filters.
Snooze a conversation
- Open a conversation or inbox row from the filtered or full list.
- On the conversation detail actions, choose Snooze.
- Pick a quick snooze option: 30 minutes, 2 hours, tomorrow, or one week.
- Choose Custom or Smart time when you need a specific return time.
- Submit the snooze modal when custom timing is required.
Snoozed conversations leave the active queue until the snooze window ends.
Snooze a work item card
- From a work item card in the inbox, choose Snooze when that item supports deferral.
- Pick a snooze preset or open custom timing when needed.
- Confirm the snooze.
If the item changed while you were working, Slack asks you to reopen it before saving.
Success criteria
You finished the workflow when:
- Filtered views show only rows that match the facets you selected.
- Snoozed conversations and items disappear from the active queue until the snooze window ends or you clear snooze-related filters.
- Filter choices persist when you move between App Home and the inbox modal for the same brand.
Troubleshooting
Filters button is missing
Open the inbox from the Engage work center first. Confirm you have inbox access for the active brand.
Filter submit does nothing or shows a brand error
Reopen the inbox from App Home, confirm the active brand, and submit the filter form again.
Sentiment facets are missing
Those facets require plan access to the sentiment features they depend on. Other facets such as platform, status, and assignment should still be available on Team and Scale.
Snooze preset did not apply
Open the conversation again and choose Snooze from the conversation detail actions. For custom times, complete the snooze modal before you close it.
Work item snooze fails with a stale item message
The item changed while you had it open. Reopen the work item card from the current inbox list and retry snooze.
Snoozed items still appear
Check whether your active filters include snoozed or deferred items. Clear snooze-related filters or wait until the snooze window ends.
