Restart setup safely

Set up restart setup safely during your first Slash Social workspace run.

Goal

Reopen onboarding setup when early configuration used the wrong brand, timezone, or approval channel. Restart and abort flows let you fix setup mistakes without deleting published posts or erasing completed approval history.

Before you begin

  • Start onboarding at least once so setup state exists for the workspace.
  • Know which brand should stay active for day-to-day work. Switch the active brand on App Home before you restart if multiple brands share the org.
  • Decide whether you need a full restart or only to fix one step. Single-step fixes from the onboarding checklist are often enough when just cadence or the approval channel was wrong.

Steps

  1. Open Slash Social App Home.
  2. Open the setup status modal from App Home. The entry point is available from App Home and from modal contexts when you are already inside a setup flow.
  3. Review the setup status screen. Slash Social shows different actions when setup is complete versus incomplete. Pick the action that matches your situation.
  4. To stop an in-progress onboarding path without keeping partial wizard state, choose Abort setup and confirm in the abort confirmation modal. Read the confirmation text before you submit.
  5. To run setup again from the beginning, choose Restart setup and confirm in the restart confirmation modal. This reopens the onboarding flow while leaving existing content in place.
  6. After restart, work through only the steps that need correction:
    • Wrong brand: confirm the active brand, then update brand basics or switch brands before you edit accounts or cadence.
    • Wrong timezone or cadence: reopen cadence setup and save new windows or intensity.
    • Wrong approval channel: rerun the set-approval-channel step from the checklist or Settings.
    • Wrong taxonomy: adjust pillars and topics without removing posts that already have pillar assignments.
  7. Skip steps that are already correct. Restarting setup does not require re-entering every field if only one area was wrong.
  8. When finished, refresh App Home so the checklist and work centers reflect the updated configuration.

Confirm it worked

  • The setup modal shows the expected complete or in-progress state for your brand.
  • App Home checklist items match the configuration you intended (active brand, cadence, approval channel).
  • Published posts, scheduled items, and past approval decisions are still visible in their usual surfaces.
  • New approval traffic routes to the corrected Slack channel.

If something goes wrong

Setup modal does not open

Open setup from App Home while the Slash Social app is focused. If the modal still fails, confirm the workspace finished at least one install and onboarding start. Contact your workspace admin if the org record is missing.

Abort or restart confirmation fails

Submit the confirmation modal only after metadata loads. Brand or org scope mismatches block the action; switch to the brand you are configuring and try again.

Restart cleared checklist progress but not content

That is expected. Restart resets onboarding progression, not posts or approvals. Re-complete checklist steps you still need.

Published work disappeared

Restart and abort should not remove published content or approval history. If content is missing, note the brand and time range and contact support; the issue is unlikely to be caused by restart alone.

First draft still fails after restart

Restart fixes setup routing, not generation failures. Use Retry a failed generation for failed jobs after setup is correct.

You aborted but want onboarding back

Open setup from App Home again and choose restart, or resume from the onboarding checklist if resume actions are shown for your brand.

Next step

Return to Finish the onboarding checklist and complete any steps that reopened after restart.
